Speculation abounds online about the highly anticipated successor to the 2017 Nintendo Switch. Among the most notable gaming leaks of the week are new details, with rumors from multiple sources confirming several of the console’s features and specifications.
According to reports, the console will be called Nintendo Switch 2. It will have a dock with the same logo as the original Nintendo Switch but with a “2” attached to it.
Although the new dock lacks additional ports, it could possess an unexpected feature.
New drift-resistant magnetic controller
The upgraded Nintendo Switch 2 brings exciting changes, starting with a magnetic connector that ensures an effortless and secure attachment of the gamepads.

In a game-changing shift, Nintendo’s controllers will now feature Hall effect sensors—an upgrade that eliminates the degradation issues of older models and allows for easy resets when needed.
This technology promises to finally put an end to the infamous “drift” problem, where the sticks fail to return to the center, causing games to register movement in a specific direction even when the sticks are untouched.
Another standout feature is the new U-shaped kickstand, designed to provide far greater stability than the original’s flimsy gumstick, ensuring a sturdier gaming setup.
On top of that, the console’s dock may include a fan, keeping the device cool and efficient even during intense handheld gaming sessions.
Rumored dimensions and design
A three-dimensional imaging analysis reveals that the new console is slightly larger than the Nintendo Switch OLED version. Its design closely resembles the original but includes tweaks, such as a larger size and an improved dock.
Images allegedly obtained by Dbrand suggest that the upcoming Switch model will feature a dual USB-C setup: a lower port for dock attachment and an upper port designed for portable recharging during gameplay.

Photos surfaced, possibly revealing the dock for the new console and the inside of its gamepad rail, showing exposed copper contacts and clear certification stamps.
The initial console release will feature a dark grey version, followed by a plain white design and a limited-edition version inspired by a popular Nintendo franchise that hasn’t yet received a themed Switch model.
Leaked specifications
Reports indicate that the Nintendo Switch 2 will pack impressive hardware, including the powerful Nvidia Tegra X1 chip and an 8-core Cortex-A78AE processor, delivering a major upgrade in processing capabilities.
With 8GB of RAM for seamless multitasking and a stunning 8-inch high-resolution LCD display, this new model promises to take performance and visuals to the next level.
These enhanced technical specs are set to provide a substantial performance leap, resulting in smoother gameplay with less lag, heightened responsiveness, and an overall more immersive and fluid gaming experience.
Expected launch date and price
The company behind the iconic gaming brand is reportedly preparing to unveil the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 in January 2025, with a release window expected between June and July.
Reports suggest that the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 could range from $399 to $449.
New details have surfaced, offering a clearer picture of the features and capabilities users can look forward to in the upcoming console. While some specifics remain unclear, one thing is certain: the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to deliver significant improvements across the board.
Introducing a magnetic attachment system and Hall effect joysticks will mark a significant leap forward, offering a more reliable and enjoyable gaming experience for those familiar with the original Switch’s limitations.
However, one crucial question remains: Will the new console meet user expectations regarding both performance and battery life?
